Michael Byron Simson, M.D., age 77, of Villanova, PA, passed away on September 14, 2021. Born in Kalamazoo, MI, he was the son of the late Clyde Byron and Mary Simson (nee Ciaiola).
Dr. Simson was a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. He did his internship, residency and cardiology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He retired as the Samuel Bellet Associate Professor, Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania and the Cardiology Section, Department of Internal Medicine, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Simson was devoted to his patients as they were to him. He provided expert and compassionate care at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He inspired medical students and cardiology fellows at the Penn School of Medicine and Hospital.
Dr, Simson had a lifelong curiosity and passion for learning and a deep compassion and interest in the experiences of others. Many now live due to his 50 years of dedicated practice as a physician.
Dr. Simson is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sharon Pastor Simson, PhD, his son Michael D. Simson, M.D., his daughter-in-law Jennifer Baltzer Simson and his grandson George Connor Simson. He was devoted to his family and beloved by them. Also survived by his siblings Mary Ann Phillips, William C. Simson, DDS, and Susan Pittman and many nieces and nephews.
