Michael A. Short passed away peacefully on November 27, 2018 at Maris Grove. Born February 23, 1931, he lived a long, joyful life, devoted to his faith and his family.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary (Friel) Short. He was a loving father to his four children: Michael Short (Margie), Bill Short (Kelly), Regina Davies (Scott), and Joe Short (Alice). He was a proud grandfather of his eleven grandchildren: Katie, Allie, and Megan Short, Kristen and Ryan Short, Brandon and Sophia Short, Shannon, Kerrianne, Patrick, and Conor Davies.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Michael Short; mother, Catharine Short; and three brothers, Chalie, Jimmy and Jackie.
He was born and raised in South Philadelphia where he was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish and a graduate of Southeast Catholic, Class of 49.
He was a veteran of the US Army and was a 4th Degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus.
He was a volunteer for the Literacy Council of Delaware County.
Mike was a kind man who would greet everyone with a smile. He took on every battle thrown his way with a positive attitude that was admirable to everyone he knew. He was a very wise and intelligent man who would avidly read and religiously complete the daily crossword puzzle. Mike was a devout Catholic who would frequently lector, serve as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteer at his parish, St. Pius X, in Broomall, and previously for St. Andrews, in Drexel Hill. He enjoyed sports and was a dedicated fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. Above all, Mike was a passionate father and grandfather to all of his children and grandchildren. He was their biggest fan in attendance at all of the graduations, theater performances, concerts, and sporting events.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 9:00 AM - 10:20 AM at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA 19008, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM.
Interment St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown, PA.
