Michael P. Cummings, 67 of West Chester, passed away on September 9, 2021, after a courageous struggle with Parkinson’s Disease, with his daughter, Jennifer by his side. His struggle showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, he stayed strong until the end.
He was born in Darby, PA on September 24, 1953. Michael graduated from Bishop Shanahan High School in West Chester, PA.
Michael treasured times with family and friends—creating a sense of connection and fun among them. In a word, Michael was a generous man who took care of those whom he loved. Above all, he took great joy in watching his daughter grow into the beautiful person she is today. Michael worked as a sales representative in the manufacturing automation industry. He had a great sense of humor. In his youth, he played baseball and football in the Aston Athletic Association, Aston, PA. While playing adult sports, he was known as “Pops” to many of his friends. He enjoyed being active—playing sports and workouts at the gym. He was an avid sports fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles and Flyers. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in West Chester, PA. He loved music and art. His CD collection could fill an entire room. He had a talent for sketching and drawing and was a collector of art. When he could no longer draw he continued his love for art on the computer working through some graphic design pieces. He loved the Jersey shore, the early morning bike rides, the sun and sand and staring out over the bay for hours.
Michael was predeceased by his parents James and Agnes Cummings (nee Gray). He was the loving father of Jennifer and will be missed by his many brothers and sisters: James (Margie), Marianne Curran (John), Joanne McKee (Bernard), Kathleen Jones (Lee), Mark (Dale), Stephen (Mindy), Thomas (Gena) and Sr. Agnes Marie Cummings, IHM. He was the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. The family is sincerely grateful to the nursing staff at the Brandywine Hall Nursing Facility, West Chester, PA for their exceptional care of Michael.
Family and friends are invited to visit the family on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382 and at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9-10 AM. His Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at SS Simon and Jude, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, at 10:30 AM. Interment St. Agnes Cemetery.
