Michael Anthony Costello "Little Michael," of Coatesville, PA passed away on March 11, 2017 at the age of 14.
Michael was the beloved son of Michael and Patricia (nee Jalbuena) Costello; also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and his 4-legged sister and brother, Daisy and Riley.
Michael was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 117 chartered by the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Coatesville, PA and a Den Chief of Troop 342 chartered by St. Mary Magdalen Church, Wilmington, DE. He has spent the last year working toward obtaining his Eagle Scout Rank. His project included fundraising and organizing the sewing of over 300 pillowcases for the organization Ryan's Case for Smiles that were delivered to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in February. He loved fundraising and selling popcorn for the scouts! Michael has participated in numerous fishing derby tournaments and most recently won first place in Cabela's King Kat Rodeo. He loved geocaching with the S.E.A.R.C.H., S.T.R.A.N.G.E. and L.O.S.T geocaching groups and was well known as HLHS-Tx Kid. Michael was an avid cook and loved to shop for and cook all the family meals and serve them professionally plated. He loved to sit down formally and enjoy the meals - no rushing him! ("Go sit down, I got this!") He also was a Junior Volunteer with All 4 Paws who loved interacting with the puppies and making toys for all the rescued animals. He was a 9th grade student in the Coatesville Area School District.
Michael left a lasting impression with everyone who met him. He was the true definition of a hero - an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure, in spite of overwhelming obstacles.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 4:00-7:00 PM Sunday, March 19, 2017 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 43 W. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, PA 19335, 610-269-3080 and 10:00-11:00 AM Monday at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 107 S. 17th Avenue, Coatesville, PA 19320 followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery. It is totally up to you, but please feel free to bring your children. Michael would want them all included.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Ryan's Case for Smiles, 295 E. Swedesford Road, #396, Wayne, PA 19087.
