Matthew W. Reilly, age 62, passed away at home on June 25, 2026. Beloved son of the late John F. and Ann G. (nee Amandelora) Reilly.
Matthew is survived by his loving siblings, John F. Reilly Jr (Cornelia), Suzanne R. Luzi (Albert), Ellen R. McMenamin (Edward), and Maureen R. Montani (Robert), many nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Reilly. In addition to being godfather to two nephews, Matthew was also godfather to his favorite pups, Schnoodles and Harley.
Matthew earned his GED from Upper Darby High School through the Elwyn Institute. He continued with Elwyn’s vocational rehab program where he was employed for many years.
Uncle Bunky, as Matthew was affectionately referred to by his nieces and nephews, was always ready for a card game, especially one where he could tell them to “Go Fish”. He was routinely seen wheeling around the block, whether in Drexel Hill or Ocean City, often with several nieces or nephews in tow. Given his dry sense of humor they might have been told to go play in traffic. After a full day of such activities, it was not unusual to find one of the kids hanging out with Matthew watching game shows, Golden Girls or Everybody Loves Raymond. The kids learned many things from watching these shows with their Uncle Matthew and cherished these moments together.
Matthew reserved his highest admiration for Elvis Presley with a secondary nod to the Fonz. He always defended the Fonz when we tried to convince him that the Fonz was a nerd, but his family knew to never speak ill of The King.
Although Matthew was unscrupulously honest, he would not reveal who was his favorite sister nor would he tell you where his wallet was or if he had any money. However, Wawa gift cards or 20 dollar bills often found their way to his many nieces and nephews.
Matthew instilled a deep appreciation among his family and friends in the value of gratitude, demonstrated especially by saying Grace at meal times. A beloved tradition that endures for many of us.
Quoting his hero Elvis, I am sure Matthew would like to say to his devoted caregivers, especially Dian and Sandra, “Thank You, Thank You Very Much”. The entire Reilly family also wants to offer all his caregivers a deeply heartfelt thanks.
Services and Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Matthew’s name to be made to Elwyn at elwyn.org/donate/
