Mary Ruth Smith

Mary Ruth Smith, 94, of Downingtown, PA, passed away on November 4, 2026.

Born on November 24, 1931, in Manchester, Kentucky, Mary was the daughter of the late Brian and Minnesota (Napier) Marcum. She was raised primarily in Hillsboro, Ohio. After high school she worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where she met her future husband, Jack, at the Officers' Club.

Mary devoted herself to raising her children, and she later worked as a sales clerk at Macy's for more than 20 years. She was an avid reader of history books, loved to cook and knit, and she was especially fond of making purses and quilts.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late Jack R. Smith. She is survived by her son, Wade Mitchell Smith (Marilyn Traeger); her daughters, Angela (Wayne Biesecker), Cynthia (Buck Bullen), Gail, and Patricia (Doug Flick); 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sons, Howard Smith and David Wayne Smith; her brothers, Conrad, Jennings, and Raymond Marcum; and her grandson, Tristan Smith.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at 10 AM at Hopewell U.M.C. Cemetery, Downingtown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lord's Pantry in Downingtown, PA.
