Mary Shannon
April 28, 1919 — February 20, 2018
Mary G. Shannon (nee Harkins), age 98, of Media, PA, formerly of Havertown, PA, passed away on February 20, 2018. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Bridget Harkins (Nee Coyle). Mary was a 1936 graduate of West Catholic Girls High School in Philadelphia, PA.
Mary and her husband Don were married for 71 wonderful years. He fondly recalls, "I was very happy she waited out a whole WAR for ME!" They had such a special love visible for all to see and believed in the importance of family.
When family and friends think about Mary, the first thing they think of is her beautiful smile. She enjoyed all kinds of music and her greatest happiness was when everyone would gather and sing along. She loved to sing in the Annunciation choir. She also loved bowling, reading, crossword puzzles and she had an amazing sense of humor. She had such a love for all babies and children especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She not only loved big family gatherings but made every day feel like a special occasion.
Mary enjoyed her very special lifelong friends from West Catholic High School, her sorority, the SAGWAS.
Mary was predeceased by her brother, Charles Harkins. She is survived by her beloved husband, Donald J. Shannon, her loving children Don Paul Shannon (Aleph Ashline), Maryanne Fisher (Dennis), Kathleen Cellucci (Robert), Thomas Shannon (Jean), Patricia Shannon, Teresa Hagenbach (Thomas) and Eileen Wert (Michael). She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren Damien (Michele), Rebecca (Pete), Maureen (Jim), Megan (Chris), Neal (Jen), Brett (Jess), Dan (Jenna), Michelle (Bern), Keith (MIchele), Mary, Molly (Trevor), Monica (Chris), Patrick (Sarah), Doug, Tim, Patrick and Amy. 10 great-grandchildren Evelyn, Henry, Archie, Ian, Keira, Emma, Kitt, Mary Jo, Miles & Baby Sweeney. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Saturday, February 24, 2018 9:30-11:15 AM Annunciation BVM Church, 401 Brookline Blvd., Havertown, PA and to her Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
