Mary J. Imperiale, 92, of Blue Bell, PA, passed away July 26, 2025, at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Born July 7, 1933 in Haddonfield, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Vincent Nicholas and Josephine Mary (nee Punk) Tranchitella.
Mary graduated from St. Hubert Catholic School for Girls in Northeast Philadelphia and received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Villanova University. She received her Master’s from Marywood University and took postgraduate courses in education.
She was a lifelong learner and educator, starting her teaching career in the Philadelphia Catholic Schools System and later teaching at Regis Academy and St. Ignatius Middle Schools in Kingston, PA. She was honored by Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School for excellence in middle school teaching. In her later years, she served as a substitute teacher in the Wyoming Valley West School District and worked for Kaplan teaching test prep for the SATs. She was also a private tutor and college advisor.
Mary loved learning, taking lessons in tennis, piano, cooking and bridge, showing her many passions.
Mary’s greatest joy was being involved in volunteer activities and fundraising for her children’s schools. From planning Christmas Teas and Auctions to being on the sidelines for sports or in the seats for concerts and plays, she was a welcome fixture.
Mary was an active member of St. Ignatius Church in Kingston and attended Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Plymouth Meeting.
Mary was a true Philly sports fan. She loved watching and attending Phillies and Eagles games, and Villanova basketball and football games.
Some of her greatest joys were going “down the shore” music, attending shows and concerts and singing in various choirs. She loved the holidays and made each one special. Often hosting family and friends with her heartfelt skills.
Mary’s laugh was infectious and she had a distinctive and dry sense of humor.
Like a good teacher, she corrected the grammar and spelling of those around her, as well as TV broadcasters, until her final days.
Mary was the loving mother of Kristen Imperiale (Chris Goldberg) of Blue Bell, PA), Tom Imperiale (Lori), Tustin, CA, Michael Imperiale (Lisa), of San Anselmo, CA; and grandmother of Helene Imperiale (Andrew Prosser), of Los Angeles, CA, and Alexandra Imperiale, of San Anselmo, CA.; and Mom Mom adored grandsons Luca and Leo, Tustin, CA.
