Mary Hoffpauer

Mary Elizabeth Hoffpauer of Media, PA, peacefully passed away at age 89 on September 14, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Born July 7, 1932 in Bryn Mawr, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frederick, Sr. and Mary (nee Woodcock) Stewart.

Mary was a dedicated elementary school teacher in the Haverford and Upper Darby School Districts and was a pioneer for women’s teacher’s rights, fighting to become the first teacher in Haverford Township School District to remain in work through her pregnancies.

She and her husband Ronald were active residents of Lima Estates. After retirement Mary took up baking which she greatly enjoyed. Mary and her husband made it a point to hand deliver fresh cakes and bread to all the 300+ residents of Lima Estates on their birthdays, while singing a Happy Birthday song with each special delivery.

Mary was the beloved wife of her college sweetheart, Ronald P. Hoffpauer, whom she shared a joyful marriage with for 65+ years. She was the loving mother of Lt. Col (retired) Steven Hoffpauer (Janna), Ann Murtaugh (the late Kevin P. Murtaugh, Sr.), Jeffery Hoffpauer (Donna), and Debbie McMasters (Andy); adoring grandmother of Kevin Murtaugh, Jr. (Kirsten), Kelly Murtaugh, Kristin Dillon (Loren), Cole “Kenny Hoffpauer” Redding, Dani Hoffpauer and Katherine Hoffpauer; dear step-grandmother of Jackson LaRue, Robert LaRue, Christopher Mullen, and Jake Mullen; cherished sister of Frederick Stewart, Jr. (Betty); and caring great-grandmother of Corinn Murtaugh, Lochlan Murtaugh, and Marshall Dillon.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 9 AM to 11 AM, Monday, September 20, 2021 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382. The Visitation will be immediately followed by her Celebration of Life service at 11 AM. Interment Valley Forge Memorial Gardens.
