Mary Devlin

Mary T. Devlin (nee Joyce), age 92, of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 14, 2021. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Joyce (nee Weaver).

Mary was a spiritual woman, and a devout Catholic. Mary grew up in Our Mother of Sorrows Parish in West Philadelphia and was a parishioner of St. Cyril of Alexandria Church in East Lansdowne for 64 years. (now St. Philomena / St. Cyril in Lansdowne)

Mary loved visiting Cape May Point, shopping on 69th Street, Christmas trips to downtown Philadelphia, to see the John Wanamaker Light Show and the Dickens display with her grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren. Being the Matriarch of the family, Mary hosted Thanksgiving, New Year’s and Easter dinners every year for the entire family. Mary was happy to provide babysitting and daycare for her grandchildren, bringing her considerable joy.

Mary loved making gigantic batches of chocolate chip cookies for the grands at Christmastime, and delighted in hosting a spaghetti and meatball dinner for family birthdays throughout the year.

Mary was predeceased in 1957 by her beloved husband, John J. Devlin an Upper Darby Policeman. Mary is also predeceased by her children John J. Devlin, Mary C. Hicks, Marian Devlin and brothers Peter and Sheridan Joyce and sister Dolores Fry. She is survived by her loving son, Joseph J. Devlin, her sister Catherine Joyce, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Wednesday, December 22, 2021, 9:30 -10:30 AM at St. Philomena Church, 41 E. Baltimore Avenue, Lansdowne, PA and to her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
