Mary O'Malley

d. December 29, 2017

Mary Ann "May" O'Malley of East Goshen, PA passed away peacefully on December 29, 2017 surrounded by her family.

Born in Frenchpark, County Roscommon, Ireland on November 17, 1929, she was the 4th of 9 children born to the late James and Mary Ann (Giblin) Dowd.

May immigrated to the United States in August of 1948. She met and later married Joseph O'Malley of Westport, County Mayo, Ireland. They purchased a home in Glenolden, PA where they went on to raise their six children. In 1972 the family moved to the West Chester area.

May loved all things Irish. Both she and her husband Joe were accomplished Irish dancers. She loved nothing more than an afternoon out with her girls at the Pub where she "whizzed" around the dance floor for hours, or a night at the Irish Center to dance the night away at an Irish Ball. Both she and Joe hosted many a party in their home and her love of entertaining continued over the years.

She made the best Irish Scones and Blueberry muffins and was a wonderful cook. She devoted her life to caring for her handicapped son, John James, born deaf and sight impaired as a result of the German Measles Epidemic. Her devotion to John and her advocacy for his wellbeing were nothing short of amazing.

She is survived by her children Lynda Hinde (Steve), Grace Wallace (Kevin), Joseph O'Malley (Christine), Rita Adams (Christopher), Michael O'Malley (Marybeth).

She was a loving "Grammy Malley" to Melissa, Steven, Michael and Colleen Hinde; Kevin and Ryan Wallace; Jaclyn O'Malley Bonano (Rob), Michelle, and Madison O'Malley; Caitlin and Christopher Adams; and MaryKate and Joseph O'Malley. She is survived by her brothers John Dowd (Mary) of West Chester, PA and Christie Dowd of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, sisters-in-law Bridie Dowd and Nora Brennan of Ireland and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband Joe in 1988 and son John James in 2017. Preceded in death by brothers Joseph, Thomas, James, Anthony and sisters Kathleen and Frances.
