Mary Ann Smethurst

Mary Ann Smethurst (née Coogan), 77, of West Chester, PA passed away on October 23, 2022. 

Born in 1944 in Pottsville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Blanche (née Dauchess) Coogan.

Mary Ann was a bright soul that impacted the lives of everyone she met. She was a remarkable woman and was a truly amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, reading, floating in her pool, putting together puzzles, playing bridge with friends, and spending time with the people she loved.

Mary Ann was an incredibly active member of the Saints Peter and Paul Church in West Chester, Pennsylvania where she was admired and cherished by all. She was an accomplished woman who thoroughly enjoyed sharing knowledge and stories of her time as an licensed practical nurse. She was incredibly proud of her family and friends and never forgot to mention it to anyone she talked to.  Mary Ann showed unconditional love to those who she spent time with and never failed to put a smile on everyone’s faces. 

Mary Ann was the beloved wife of the late Alan G. “George” Smethurst; loving mother of Michael G. Smethurst (Holly) and Lynn A. Mirante (Charles); devoted grandmother of Megan & Matthew Mirante and Andrew, Paige & Courtney Smethurst; dear sister of Kathleen Moffitt (Vincent), Carol Strouse (Errol), Geralyn Jones (Brett) and the late Joseph Coogan.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 9:30-11:00 AM Friday, October 28, 2022 at SS Peter & Paul Church, 1325 Boot Rd, West Chester, PA followed by her Funeral Mass 11:00 AM. Interment Private.

Mary Ann always said she did not want people being sad and wearing black at her funeral. To honor her, please feel free to wear bright colors to her services.
