September 30, 1931 — April 17, 2024

Martin Edward (Ed) Gunning, Jr., 92, originally of Baltimore, most recently of Malvern, PA, passed away April 17,2024

Born September 30, 1931 in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Martin Edward, Sr., and Margaret (Newgirg) Gunning.

Ed was the beloved husband of the late Frances Faye (nee Herzberger) Gunning for 62 loving years; loving father of Martin Edward Gunning, III (Ann) and David L. Gunning, Sr; adoring grandfather of Megan Gunning Patterson (Jesse), Meredith Gunning, and David L. Gunning, Jr.(Adan); proud great-grandfather of Edie Patterson and Mira Patterson; and dear brother of Margaret Walega. He was predeceased by his brother, Gerard Gunning, and his sister, Marie Wetters.

Ed attended grade school in Baltimore at St Mary Star of the Sea, then Southern High School, and graduated from Mergenthaler ( MerVo-Tech) High School. After his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, he found employment at The Baltimore Shipyard and completed his career with the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company as a customer service engineer.

Ed served honorably in the U.S. Navy and proudly served at Oceana Air Base in Virginia Beach, VA. This is where Ed and Faye nurtured their love for Virginia.

Ed came from a musical family, where his mother taught him and his siblings the piano, with fond memories of the whole family singing around the piano. Later, Ed learned the organ and entertained everyone for hours. He and Faye were avid campers and kept a camper at Virginia Landing on the eastern shore of Virginia. He was very proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments and his love for them was second to none. He was a proud pet parent and loved all animals.
