Martin John "Marty" Gillane

Martin John "Marty" Gillane, age 73, passed away on November 14, 2024.

Martin grew up in West Philadelphia, PA. He was the son of the late Michael B., Sr. and Margaret (nee McKeown) Gillane, one of multiple children in the Gillane family. He attended St. Carthage Elementary School and was an altar boy there. Martin enjoyed playing baseball and soccer. He was a 4 letter Varsity soccer player at West Catholic High School. Martin graduated in 1969 as class Salutatorian. He attended West Chester State College and played Division I soccer. Martin earned his Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and a degree in Health Sciences. He spent many years in Hotel, Restaurant Service, Management, and Sales.

Martin served as a middle school and high school soccer coach at Devon Boys Prep and West Catholic Girls. He was an avid golfer with participation in the National Left-Handed Golf Association Tournaments. Martin was the caretaker/groundskeeper at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cemetery in Downingtown, PA and was a member of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in West Chester, PA. He provided longstanding service as a porter for the Metropolitan Apartment Complex in West Chester, PA. 

Martin leaves behind multiple siblings, nieces, and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his brother, Matthew V. Gillane (Donna), nephew Matthew M. Gillane (Marie), nieces, Megan Wilson (Christopher) and their daughter, Ava, and Maura Skrosky (Timothy) and their children, Logan and Tegan.

Martin made many plans and goals during his blessed and successful life's journey, his ultimate life goal: "To go to heaven!"

Services were held on November 23, 2024 with burial at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Cemetery.
