Marion Atella passed away peacefully with her family on Sunday June 8, 2025. Marion was born in Philadelphia and was a longtime resident of Glen Mills, PA.
She was the daughter of the late John J. Dougherty Sr. and Vera Dougherty (née DiFrancesco) and sister of the late Jack Dougherty and Deanna Dougherty. She is also predeceased by her late brother-in law, Richard Atella, and her late nephew, Ricky Atella.
Marion was the loving mother of Lisa Compton (Tom), and Chip Atella (Chrissy). She was the proud grandmother of Erika Fine (John), Lewis Atella (Courtney), Michael Smith (Sabrina), and Mia Atella and great-grandmother of Lewis Atella IV. Marion is also survived by her loving sister, Carol Atella and her partner John, her sister-in law, Fran Mariani (Lee), and their incredible families. Marion is also survived by her longtime companion, Joseph Pastorino, and her former husband, Lewis Atella.
Marion graduated from West Catholic Girls High School in 1959. She attended Modern Ella cosmetology school and pursued a career in hairdressing.
Marion worked as a receptionist with her family at JJ Dougherty & Sons for many years until she ventured into make-up and fragrances at the Lord & Taylor department store, which was her passion. In her spare time, she loved listening to music, dancing, and reading.
Marion’s love for her children, grandchildren, and family had no bounds. She lived a joyful life full of devotion to her girlfriends and family.
Our mother was beautiful, loving, proud, and incredibly generous. She was known for her kindness and her great sense of humor. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation, Monday, June 16, 2025, 10:00 to 11:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 430 Valleybrook Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342, followed by her Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment private.
