Marie "Lucy" Rainone
November 13, 1935 – March 21, 2026
Born Marie Willingham, she was best known to all as Lucy.
Lucy was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Rainone; the loving mother of Robert Rainone, Jr. (Margaret) of Chicago, IL, Michele Rainone of Hatboro, PA, Susan Daley (Gil) of Malvern, PA, and Thomas Rainone of Glen Mills, PA. She was the caring grandmother of Alexandra Daley of Colorado Springs, CO, Erin Daley of Malvern, PA, and Gabriel Rainone of Beaufort, SC. Marie is also survived by her brother, Thomas Willingham (Lane) of Brentwood, TN and is predeceased by her brother, Chuck Willingham (Trish) of Dallas, TX.
Lucy was a woman of sharp intellect, athletic grace, and deep devotion to family, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026.
A graduate of the College of Notre Dame in Maryland, she earned her degree in biology—a field that shaped her lifelong perspective. She began her career in research and development at Squibb Pharmaceutical before dedicating herself to raising her family.
Lucy’s scientific mind never rested; she was a crossword puzzle aficionado who famously conquered the Sunday New York Times weekly. Her home was never without a Physician’s Desk Reference, and she firmly believed there was no medical ailment that couldn't be solved with a biologist’s insight.
A natural athlete, she served as the captain of her college basketball team. Her competitive spirit transitioned seamlessly to the tennis court, where she captained numerous teams at St. Albans Swim and Tennis Club and served as the Past President of the Philadelphia Women’s Interclub. Lucy learned how to play bridge in college and continued to play throughout her life wherein she achieved Master status.
Beyond her accomplishments, Lucy was a dedicated Philadelphia sports fan and a lover of a good time. Whether she was heading out on casino trips or playing cards with "the gals" from St. Albans, she brought energy and wit to every table. Above all, she was committed to the Willingham and Rainone families, never missing a reunion or a wedding.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing 9:30-10:30 AM, Friday, April 17, 2026 at St. John Neumann Church, 380 Highland Lane, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment at Calvary Cemetery of West Conshohocken.
