Marie H. Faiss

Marie H. Faiss, 81, of Malvern, PA, passed away June 25, 2023.

Born October 28, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Agnes (nee Wilkinson) Hamilton.

Marie grew up in West Philadelphia and attended St Francis de Sales elementary school and West Catholic Girls High School. She graduated Cabrini College in 1963 with a degree in elementary education. Marie married her husband John after graduation and was married 18 years before becoming a widow. She started her teaching career in Yeadon PA working a short time before devoting herself to raising her five children. Marie resumed teaching at St John’s in Manayunk where she was beloved by her students. After many years teaching the fifth grade she decided to pursue a graduate degree. Marie attended St Charles Borromeo Seminary and graduated with a master’s degree in religious studies. Following graduation Marie started teaching religion in various Philadelphia Diocesan high schools. Later in her career she began a new position as the Director of Religious Education for St Matthias parish in Bala Cynwyd. After many happy years teaching RCIA and coordinating the CCD program Marie retired.

Marie always held a strong connection to God and her Catholic faith. A faith that guided her throughout her life and one that she instilled in her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. Countless hours were spent laughing, shopping, going out to eat, or just hanging out. Marie was blessed to have lifelong friends from St Francis de Sales and friends from St Matthias. In her retirement Marie enjoyed traveling with her daughters and friends, and listening to her grandson Jimmy play on her piano. Throughout her life Marie always loved animals especially her dogs Gus, Sandy, and her grand -dogs Rosie and Charlie.

Marie was the beloved wife of the late John Faiss Sr.; loving mother of John Faiss (Marybeth), Jane Donovan (Barry), Kathy Helferty (Jim), Philip Faiss (Lisa), and Pete Faiss, Sr.; adoring grandmother of Peter Jr., Kathryn, Clare, Quinn, Delaney, Mollee, Jimmy, and Grace; and proud great-grandmother of Aubree, and aunt to several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Joe Hamilton.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 10:00 AM to 10:50 AM, Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at St. Patrick Church, 104 Channing Ave, Malvern, PA 19355, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
