Lydia V. Cimino of Broomall, PA passed away on May 2, 2026, at the age of 98. Beloved wife of the late Anthony J. Cimino. Loving mother of sons Anthony Cimino, Jr., Christopher Cimino, and daughter, Carolyn Cimino. Devoted sister of the late Dina Battaglini, the late Clyde Volpe, and the late Gus Volpe. Precious daughter of the late Julia (nee Crocetti) and Albert Volpe.
Lydia was raised in Dennison, Ohio and came to Philadelphia as a young woman, following her siblings Clyde and Dina. She found work as a secretary in the city and won the heart of a young law student, Anthony Cimino. After marrying, Lydia raised their 3 children at home, eventually moving to the suburb of Broomall into a house she loved.
As a devoted mother, Lydia had a sweetness, kindness, and warmth that radiated from her like sunshine. She was extremely loving, fun, playful, joyous by nature, resourceful, supportive, consistently pleasant, and patient. When her children had grown, she returned to work as a secretary, always finding work close to home so she could manage her household, as well.
Employers were very impressed with her shorthand, quick typing, and phone skills. To quote one of her bosses, she managed a two-secretary office alone with her courteous and professional "can do" attitude and motivation to go the extra mile with creativity and dedication.
She and her husband Anthony enjoyed a few years of retirement together, before he passed away in his early 70's. Soon after, Lydia's children all stepped-up to make sure all her needs were met so she could stay in the home she loved, close to her siblings.
Lydia always had a deep appreciation for music and loved to "Jitterbug" when she got the chance. Her favorite artists included Fran Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, and many of the popular female singers of the 40's and 50's. She fell in love with country music in her later years, especially George Strait. And Lydia, herself, had a beautiful singing voice, which she passed on to her children.
She was the ultimate super fan, often keeping elaborate scrap books of her favorites. And her sense of adventure would surface if she got a chance to see them perform. Whether it was Frank Sinatra or actor and race car driver Patrick Dempsy, Lydia found a way to charm security guards so she could get close to the action.
She traveled to Hawaii and Italy with her sister, who was also quite adventurous. Even in their 80's, Lydia and Dina weren't afraid to brave the crowds to celebrate the Phillies World Series win at the 2008 parade. The close bond with her sister and brother, Clyde was extraordinary. And the three could often be found together.
In her late 80's, Lydia began her battle with dementia. Still somehow, she kept her sweet, gentle, can-do spirit until the end when complications from the disease took her life. She died in the home she loved, surrounded by family. Lydia will be missed tremendously.
