Lucy Ann Hanlon (Mastromarino), age 91, died peacefully surrounded by her family on April 25, 2026, at Maris Grove Retirement Community.
Lucy was born on December 6, 1934, in Raynham, MA. She was the eighth of nine children born to Luigi and Clorinda Mastromarino.
For almost seventy years, Lucy was the loving and devoted wife of Bill Hanlon, Sr. who predeceased her in 2025.
Lucy was the exceptional mother of nine children: Donna Carroll (Mike), Mary Usala, Bill Hanlon Jr. (Julie), Patrice Hoffman (John), Teresa Pauls (Rich), Monica O’Donnell (Joe), Tom Hanlon (Peggy), Dan Hanlon (Nancy), and Matthew Hanlon. Lucy had thirty-two grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Lucy is survived by three sisters: Josephine O’Bara, Mary Mark, and Rita Mulhern. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, her brothers John, Nunzio, Joseph and Anthony Mastromarino, and her sister, Rose Alegi, as well as her daughter-in-law, Dr. Marianne Hanlon, and grandson, Joshua Paul Hanlon.
As a young girl, Lucy attended Catholic schools in Taunton, MA. She went on to attend St. Ann Hospital School of Nursing in Fall River, MA where she received her RN. Lucy met her husband, Bill, at a local USO military dance and married in 1955. They soon moved to the Philadelphia area, and she began working as a postpartum nurse at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital. Her work life was short-lived as she began raising her family in Prospect Park and then Drexel Hill, PA. She later returned to her nursing career at Little Flower Manor Nursing Home and worked there for over twenty years.
Lucy moved to Broomall in 1986 and remained there until 2019, when she and Bill joined the Maris Grove Retirement Community.
Lucy was a devout Catholic, often attending daily Mass. She truly lived out her spirituality every day of her life. Caring for her family was her primary devotion after Jesus.
Lucy had a green thumb. From the time she was a small girl, she worked alongside her mother in the family vegetable and flower gardens evocative of her southern Italian heritage. She continued gardening throughout her lifetime, sharing her bountiful vegetable harvest with others and using her natural talent for arranging backyard flowers to decorate her home. Lucy’s other passions included trips to the beach and all things Christmas.
She was a great cook of Italian and other dishes and her three-tiered plate in her dining room was never found without fresh-baked goodies!
She loved decorating her home for all holidays and crafting. Her children and grandchildren grew up rich in the memory of her faithfulness and love of holiday traditions.
Lucy volunteered at St John’s Hospice in Philadelphia, preparing and serving meals to the homeless. She ironed altar linens as well.
Lucy was the epitome of grace and selflessness with her quiet, impactful presence, offering love and acceptance without judgment. While most people saw a tiny, sweet, quiet lady, she was so much more! She had the heart of an angel and the soul of a warrior.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Saint John Chrysostom Catholic Church, 617 South Providence Road, Wallingford PA 19086.
