Louise Rittenhouse Twining O’Malley, age 84, of Berwyn, died peacefully on December 20, 2025 with her daughter Aideen by her side.
Born on March 24, 1941 in Arlington, V.A., Louise spent most of her childhood in Wayne, PA, summering in Cape May, NJ. A graduate of the Agnes Irwin School, she also graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and studied abroad at the Universita degli Studi di Firenze in Italy. In 1964, she married Edmund Campion O’Malley, a Korean War veteran who attended Yale University and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. The two met and fell in love dancing at debutante parties. With her husband, who pre-deceased her, she enjoyed backpacking and mountain climbing in many places such as Maine and Wyoming. She enjoyed all kinds of music and often attended chamber music concerts, the opera and the ballet. Louise also worked in a veterinary lab at the University of Pennsylvania. She was a longtime member of St. Katharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and participated in many volunteer activities.
She was the daughter of Millicent Bunting Cope and Captain Robert Barber Twining, a career Navy officer who fought in World War I and World War II. She was the sister of Robert Barber Twining II. Her uncles included Gen. Nathan F. Twining (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President Dwight D. Eisenhower). Mrs. O’Malley was also the great-granddaughter of Caleb Frederick Cope (1797-1888), former president of the Philadelphia Savings Fund Society and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
In addition to her daughter Aideen (Michael C. Matthews), she is survived by her grandchildren, Mercy and Ronan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Family and friends are invited to Louise's Visitation 10:00-11:00 AM on Thursday, March 19th, followed by her funeral Mass at 11:00 AM, 104 s. Aberdeen Ave, Wayne, PA 19087. Burial to immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery in Villanova.
