Formerly of Prospect Park

Loretta Mae (Meek) Donohue

Embraced her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 23, 2023, at the age of 89.

Loretta was born on September 4, 1934, on the family farm home in Twigg Settlement, Centre Co. PA.  She was the second child of her beloved parents James and Julia (Zavada) Meek.  She was raised in the small town of Osceola Mills, PA until her 7th year.  Her family relocated to South Philadelphia in 1941 when her father gained employment at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Loretta attended Bartram High School, graduating in 1953.  Loretta was a former resident of Prospect Park for 41 years, Parkesburg PA for 17 years and various personal care and skilled nursing facilities.

Loretta was a sought-after soloist from her childhood through her adult years. She was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Philadelphia/Springfield PA where her foundation and love for Christ was built. She thrived as a committed choir member for many years in several Lutheran churches. She enjoyed her time with the quilting ladies at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard in Coatesville and preparing meals for Spoken Communion. She attended many Sunday School classes and bible studies.

Loretta worked at Bell Telephone before becoming a full-time home maker. She contributed to the many activities of her three children; Sunday School, scouts, homeroom mother, attending sporting events, plays and most importantly providing a loving homestead.

Later in the 1970’s she began a long career working for Strawbridge’s/Macy’s, retiring after 40+ years. She mostly enjoyed the many antics of her late husband Edward J. Donohue. He kept her life interesting as well as challenging her in many different aspects.

She was proceeded in death by her son, Gregory T. Donohue, her husband Edward J. Donohue, her sister Rosalie (Meek) Britten and her brother James L. Meek. She is survived by her daughter, Judith A. Baney (Robert P. Baney), and son, Timothy J. Donohue (Bridget Bisaga).  Three grandchildren, Robert J. Baney, Brodie Donohue and Rylie Donohue.  Also surviving are 7 great grandchildren: Imogin, Jenna, Kamryn, Layden, Tristin, Tenly, and Tate Baney.
