Lois Theresa McCusker, 93, of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Sunday, June 28, 2026, at her home.
Lois was born October 29, 1932 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Andrew and Marie (Keenan) Gunn. She graduated from Hallahan Catholic High School in 1950. On March 15, 1952 she was married to John J. McCusker “Mac”. Immediately thereafter, Mac was drafted and shipped out to Korea 1952-1953. Lois took up typing for Westinghouse and started a work career which lasted a lifetime. She and Mac worked together early to purchase apartments and a tavern in Delaware and Chester counties. They moved the family to Newtown Square in 1957, putting down roots which are still firm today.
While raising her family, she put her excellent typing skills to use in word processing in the early 1970’s, working in the Dean’s office at Bryn Mawr College, and finally educational publishing (for the last 44 years).
Lois was the keeper of all family information, so much so she was nicknamed “the Oracle” by family members. If you needed to know what happened at 24th & Jackson in 1947, she had the answer. Although she always had a kind word when asked advice, her practical answer to your tough choice was usually, “Well, it’s better than a sharp stick in the eye.” Indeed.
Always one to get up and go, Lois enjoyed traveling around the world with Mac for business and pleasure. This sense of adventure was passed along to all family members. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. This mutual admiration will be forever remembered in their hearts.
Lois is survived by her children, John (Tara) McCusker, Robert (Lisa) McCusker, Marianne McCusker, Eileen (Alasdair) Wilson, all of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by grandchildren, Sean, Christopher, Michael, Katelyn, Daniel, Christina, Colin, Alexandra and Andrew, great grandchildren Logan, Finnegan, Evelyn, Harlan, Maeve, Natalie and Lana. She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Marie, her husband Mac, and her daughter Lois (Robert) Taylor.
A life well lived, Lois. We love you forever.
Funeral services by Donahue Funeral Home, Newtown Square, PA and burial at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, will be private.
