In Loving Memory of Lakshmikuttyamma Pillai
“The rebirth is the continuous transition of the individual soul into a new body and environment to fulfill unfulfilled desires, grow, and complete its spiritual evolution” – Swami Chinmayananda
Lakshmikuttyamma Pillai, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, nurse, and pillar of her community, leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, compassion, and service.
Born in Plankamon, Ayroor, Lakshmikutty was raised by her mother after losing her father at an early age. She pursued higher studies in Indore and worked in Bhopal before beginning a new chapter abroad. In 1975, she arrived in New York City and eventually made Philadelphia her home. In 1977, she married her beloved husband, Vishwanathan Pillai, with whom she shared nearly five decades of life, family, and devotion.
Lakshmikutty dedicated 38 years to the oncology department at Penn, where her nursing career reflected her deep compassion and commitment to caring for others. She touched the lives of countless patients, families, and colleagues through her kindness and dedication.
She was an active and generous member of the Indian community, contributing her time and spirit to organizations including Chinmaya Mission, Sri Ramadas Mission, NSD, Kala, KHNA, and the Nair Benevolent Association of New York. A devout Hindu, she remained deeply connected to her faith, culture, and traditions. Through life’s challenges, her faith gave her strength and resilience.
Her greatest joy, however, was caring for others. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, and feeding people was her way of expressing love. Her table was always full, her home was always welcoming, and no one left her door without feeling cared for.
She found happiness in tending to her beloved plants, crocheting, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends. Above all, she cherished her family, and her grandchildren, Rudra and Krishna, were the true pride and joy of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Viswanathan; daughter, Lekha; son, Hari; son-in-law, Sooraj; daughter-in-law, Khyati; and grandchildren, Rudra and Krishna, along with countless relatives, friends, colleagues, and community members whose lives she touched.
Lakshmikuttyamma will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous spirit, open heart, and lifelong devotion to family and service. Her memory will live on in every life
