Kathy Burgess Schauer

Sep 28, 1951 — Aug 4, 2026

Kathy Burgess Schauer, whose life was marked by grace, warmth, and a distinct personal flair, sadly passed away on August 4, 2026 at the age of 74.

Born in Charleston, WV, she was the daughter of the late Robert Burgess and Shirley Jean Bennett.

Throughout her life, Kathy called Charleston, West Virginia; Chester County, Pennsylvania; and Big Sky, Montana home.

Kathy was well known for her signature Southern accent, her Starbucks tea always in hand, and her unmistakable fun-loving spirit. She built a successful career on Wall Street trading mortgage loans with First Boston and Credit Suisse before finishing her career as President of Univest Mortgage, an achievement that reflected her determination, intelligence, and unwavering work ethic. Beyond her professional success, Kathy was deeply committed to her community and generous with her time, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Whether through her career, her friendships, or her community involvement, she left a lasting impression on the many lives she touched.

Kathy had a true talent for designing homes, bringing beauty and comfort to every space she touched. She took special joy in shaping homes, transforming them into warm, inviting places that reflected her keen eye and personal style.

Holidays and family gatherings were among Kathy's greatest pleasures. She enjoyed curating these moments, ensuring that loved ones felt the beauty and comfort that she so deliberately fostered. Her love for travel took her on many memorable vacations, particularly to Amelia Island, Florida, and Steamboat, Colorado—places she held dear.

Kathy is survived by her son, Jon Schauer, and his wife, Bryn Schauer; her daughter, Meghan; her sisters, Beverly Sheehy and Dara Ray; and her cherished granddaughter, Noa Schauer. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Burgess and Shirley Jean Bennett, and her brother and sister, Scott and Karen Burgess.
