Josephine (Jo) McKay, age 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 18, 2024 in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania were she resided for the past three years. She was the daughter of Lewis Carafa and Elsie Marie Bradley, having been born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Jo is survived by her sisters Marie Barnes, Florida and Selena Berardi of West Chester, PA. Jo was preceded in death by her sister Emily (Susie) Berry.
She was married to Daniel L. Fetterman from Havertown, PA and they had six children –Lois Perret, Weymouth, Mass, James Fetterman, Kirkwood, PA, John Fetterman, Sandwich Beach, Mass, Daniel Fetterman, Tampa, FL, Paula Stewart, West Chester, PA, and Debbie Hoffman, Glen Mills, PA.
Jo then married Robert McKay and moved the family, including Robert’s children, Sharon Danbach, Frazer, PA, Vickie Fetterman, Sandwich Beach, Mass and Scott McKay, Plymouth, Mass to Weymouth, Massachusetts. Robert and Jo then had a daughter, Robin Cuoco, Weymouth, Mass.
Jo graduated from Lower Merion High School. She then attended Temple University. She later graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services. Jo was a Bookkeeper for more than 40 years and became one of the first female Account Managers for H & R Block.
Jo led a very interesting and diverse life. Her heart was always centered on Christ and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of Christ Church in Quincy, Massachusetts. Some of her duties included serving communion and a healing ministry within her church family. Jo had many interests including knitting and she had a deep love of books.
She traveled to the Dominican Republic five different years as a member of the First Baptist Church’s (Braintree, MA) mission to serve the poor as a nurse’s aid working with the children there. She was a lifetime member of the International Order of St. Luke the Physician through the Episcopal Church. Her heart went out to the plight of the American Indians, and she spent time with Billy Mills and the Lakota Tribe in South Dakota.
Grandma Jo is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
The service to celebrate Jo’s life will be held at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000, on Friday May 31st. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by the service at 11:00 am.
