Josephine M. Lawlor (nee Hayes), of Drexel Hill, age 86, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2021.
She was pre-deceased by her dear husband, Edward, and her parents, Patrick and Josephine (nee Cheasty). Loving mother of Edward (Martha), Mary King (Jack) and Patricia Beichner (Robert). Predeceased by her son, James. Sister of the late Patrick and the late Margaret.
Josephine ("Jo"), was born in Whitestone, Queens, New York, following the return of her parents and siblings from their original home in Waterford, Ireland to New York City. She attended St. Michaels Academy on the west side of Manhattan. While at a dance in Queens, Jo met her future husband, Eddie, who was from the east side of Manhattan. After they were married at the Bayside Yacht Club in New York City in 1955, the couple moved to Philadelphia where Eddie had received a job offer to sell golf balls for the US Rubber Company, despite never having played a round of golf in his life.
They settled in the Drexelbrook Apartments, where their children were born, before moving to Drexel Park in 1962, where Jo happily resided until last year. While living in Drexel Park, she made lifelong friends with whom she shared a lifetime of experiences. She, along with her family, enjoyed many summers in Stone Harbor, NJ. She was an avid member of the local YMCA and a member of St. Andrew Church Choir for more than 20 years. Her greatest joy was her 11 grandchildren who will miss her terribly.
