Joseph A. "Joe" Sanders

Joseph A. “Joe” Sanders, age 63, of Havertown, PA, passed away on July 2, 2023. Born in Washington DC, he was the son of the late William L. and Mary Helen Sanders (nee Gibson).

Joe was a devoted and loving husband. In May he celebrated 42 years of marriage to the love of his life, Sherry (nee Callahan).Their love and relationship was to be envied. They faced any adversity head on and together. To be in their presence was a beautiful and loving experience. They enjoyed doing everything together especially spending time with family.

They raised two children, who simply adored their parents, Carrie Wiemer (Robby) and Kyle Sanders (Tara). Joe was a beloved father, role model and best friend to Carrie and Kyle. Very often the voice of reason and a consistent calming presence.

He was an admirable father in law, who was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer up the most wise advice and just be a true friend to his son-in-law Robby and daughter-in-law Tara.

He was the most loving Pop Pop to Cassie, Callie, Ryleigh, Kendall, Tesa, Cheyenne and Keeleigh. You could often catch the sound of his most contagious laugh when listening to their stories. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible with all his girls and never missed an opportunity to support them however possible.

He was so loved and admired by his father in law, John Callahan and mother in laws Kathleen Rick and Sarah Callahan. Joe was the adoring brother to Patricia Smith(Russ) and the late Pamela Morton(Charles) and John Sanders.

Brother in law to Debbie Menard (Dale), Dottie Goudie and Kelly Carista.

Each of his nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart and he always looked forward to spending family days together spreading his infectious smile and positivity.

Joe began his career at Walmart in June of 1989. He lead many associates and staff at many stores throughout the country. He lived in New Port Richey, FL, managing clubs then continued to Columbus, Ohio as a market manager and finished his illustrious 34 year career in the Northeast Region as a Regional Fresh Director calling Havertown, PA home.

Joe had an impeccable attention to detail. He always maintained the highest level of standards in everything he did. He carried the same expectations of those around him but would always treat people with respect and was a great teacher with tremendous amount of patience and compassion. He managed people by being an enthusiastic and motivating leader. He was truly symbolic of the culture and values of Mr. Sam.

Joe was the recipient of many awards in his illustrious 34 year career. One of his proudest professional achievements was being an honoree of the prestigious Sam M. Walton Award of Excellence Blue Coat, one of the highest honors awarded by Walmart Stores Inc.

Joe never met a stranger and to know him was to love him.
