Joseph “Joe” Pogwist, 84, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and warmth that will live on in everyone who knew him.
Joe was born in 1941 in Summit Hill, Pennsylvania, to the late Walter J. Sr. and Stella (Fornagiel) Pogwist. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Leslie J. (Foschi), beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion, laughter, and family. Leslie preceded him in death, and he carried her memory with him always.
A proud and loving father, Joe is survived by his three children: Erik (Kathy), Stephanie (Marc), and Andrew (Leanne). His greatest joy was being “Pop” to his nine grandchildren—Matthew, Alex, Luciano, Ben, Milan, Olivia, Stella, Santino, and Chase—each of whom brought immense pride and happiness to his life.
Joe was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter J. Pogwist Jr. and Michael Pogwist.
Professionally, Joe worked in the Philadelphia office of Union Pacific Railroad before taking an early retirement. Never one to sit still, he went on to build his own wallpapering and painting business, where his eye for detail and artistic touch earned him admiration from many.
Joe embraced life with style and enthusiasm. He was a fabulous cook and a talented artist, and he loved spending time in the city, shopping, visiting the casinos, and being around animals. Known for always being impeccably dressed—with his hair perfectly styled and his signature wonderful scent—Joe carried himself with charm, confidence, and a spark that made him unforgettable.
Above all, Joe will be remembered for his love of family, his creativity, and the warmth he shared so freely. His presence filled rooms with comfort and joy, and his memory will continue to do the same for all who loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to honor Joe’s life at a Visitation on Friday, March 13, 2026, 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by a Funeral Service commencing at 7:30 PM. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe’s memory would be appreciated to Alzheimer’s Association, https://www.alz.org/get-involved-now/donate.
