Joseph “Joe” Hight, born December 9, 1953, departed this life on June 29, 2026, leaving behind a rich legacy of love, music, and generosity.
Joe’s life was defined by his deep family bonds and his enduring dedication to the people and communities who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was the beloved brother of John Hight (Sharon), Thomas Hight, James Hight, Mary Hight Grimaldi (Dennis), Jeanne Hight Ricci (Christopher), and the late Robert Hight. He was also a devoted uncle to his many nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly and will forever cherish his warmth, generosity, humor, and unwavering presence in their lives. Joe’s parents, John and Jeanne (née Dockray) Hight, preceded him in death, but their influence and love remained ever-present guiding lights throughout his own journey.
From his earliest years, Joe was drawn to the rhythms and harmonies of music, a passion that became a central thread throughout his life. With a natural ear and exceptional talent as both a guitarist and keyboard player, he immersed himself in music and shared its joy with countless others as a member of various bands. His love of music was far more than a pastime. It was a defining part of who he was, a constant source of joy, and a gift he used to bring people together.
Joe’s professional life was equally varied and marked by dedication. He began his career at Gaudio's Garden Center in Clifton Heights, where his strong work ethic and reliability were immediately apparent. From 1990 to 1995, he worked in video and audio quality control at Technicolor in the Detroit area. His keen eye for detail and commitment to quality reflected the care and integrity he brought to everything he did. He later spent 24 years at Disc Makers in New Jersey, where he retired as a sound engineer. In every workplace, Joe was known for his diligence, good humor, gentle spirit, and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Service to others was a hallmark of Joe’s life, whether through his volunteer work with the Animal Coalition of Delaware County, The Cat Nook Cafe in Norwood, or as a proud member of Sons of the American Legion Post 667 in Havertown. His commitment to his community reflected the kindness and generosity for which he will be so fondly remembered.
Perhaps one of the most charming aspects of Joe’s life was the love he bestowed upon his beloved cats, Greta, Scruffy, Oscar, Penny Lane, Ferny, Abbey Roe, Cubby, Javy, Rex, and Ruby, whom he considered his children. His enduring affection for his feline companions further illustrated his gentle and compassionate nature.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Joe’s life on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA . At 11:30 a.m., a brief time of prayer and remembrance will be held, followed by an opportunity for family and friends to share memories of Joe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to The Cat Nook Cafe, 18 W. Winona Ave., Norwood, PA 19074.
