Joseph D. McMahon

Joseph D. McMahon of Cochranville, Pennsylvania passed away on October 7, 2026 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Joey grew up in Southwest Philadelphia where he attended Most Blessed Sacrament School and West Catholic High School for Boys, Class of 1969. After graduation, he answered the call of his country and enlisted in the Marine Corps serving two deployments in Vietnam. He was a proud and respected member of Steamfitters Local 420 in Philadelphia where he held multiple positions in leadership, including Executive Board, Vice President, President and Business Agent. He and his wife, Jeannie, raised their family in her hometown of Upper Darby before fulfilling his lifelong wish of retiring to Southern Chester County.

He is survived by his children Shana (Fran) Nelling, Ryan Joseph, and Megan (Shaun) Sykes; grandchildren Cormac Joseph Nelling, Aidan Nelling, and Kilian Sykes; siblings Mickey, Marie Quinn, Suzanne Ray, Regina Halligan, Brian, Paul, and Timothy; his girlfriend and devoted caregiver Sue Charest; many beloved brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Preceding Joey in death is his wife, Jeannie (nee McRae); his parents, Mickey and Marie McMahon; and his brother, Paul, and twin sisters, Joan and Anna, who died in infancy.

There will be no funeral service at Joey’s request. The family will be receiving those who wish to pay their respects at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, Pennsylvania 19382, 610-431-9000 on Thursday, October 15, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The family requests that those wishing to honor Joey’s memory follow his example and perform simple acts of generosity and kindness whenever possible, such as tipping your server 50% of the bill (preferably in cash) or picking up a tab for the table next to you.
