Jon Bearde

Jon Bearde passed away in the comfort of his home on July 18th, 2025 at the age of 84.

Jon was born June 23rd, 1941 to Dorothy and George Bearde. He grew up in Spring City as the youngest of seven children. He received his bachelor’s degree from West Chester University where he also competed on the men’s cross-country team, serving as co-captain his senior year. In 1963, he taught mathematics at Spring-Ford High School, where he met his wife Karen. Jon completed his master’s degree from West Virginia University in 1965. Shortly after, he and Karen were married. They were soon joined by three daughters: Meridy, Amy and Megan.

Jon began his career as an analyst and programmer for General Electric. He was passionate about his work and enjoyed the challenge of solving complex problems. He quickly established himself as a sharp mind, climbing the ranks and earning several prominent leadership positions. Jon continued his career through GE’s many mergers and after 34 years, retired from Lockheed Martin at the age of 59.

In addition to his work, Jon had many hobbies: he was an avid golfer, car enthusiast, competitive bridge player and marathon runner. Alongside his wife, he traveled the world with trips overseas to Europe, China and the Caribbean. He loved the New York Times crossword puzzle and regularly volunteered to help run the polls during election season. Jon enjoyed watching all kinds of sports and could always be found cheering on the Eagles and Phillies during their seasons.

As time went on, his family continued to grow. His daughters married and sons-in-law Bill, Rich and Ian were welcomed. His favorite family members then arrived, seven grandchildren: Emily, Abby, Lily, Allison, Aidan, Ethan and Chloe, who affectionately knew him as “Poppy”. He treasured this role and supported his grandchildren by attending innumerable school events, sport competitions, musicals and graduations. His favorite tradition came in the form of the annual family beach trip to the Outer Banks in NC.

Jon is greatly missed. His dry sense of humor, immense generosity, and love for his family will not be forgotten. His family finds tremendous comfort in knowing he has been reunited with his wife Karen and daughter Megan.
