John Patrick Mahoney

John Patrick Mahoney, age 63, of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on October 7, 2023. Born in Darby, PA, he was the son of the late James F. and Isabel K. (nee Jenkin) Mahoney.

John was a graduate of St. Laurence Catholic School and Monsignor Bonner Catholic High School, class of 78. After high school he went on to graduate from Williamson College of the Trades, 8W1, as a machinist.

John spent most of his career as a Technical Service Engineer for AGC Chemicals, ICI Fluoropolymers and LNP Engineering Thermoplastics.

He volunteered at The Cherry Tree Music Co-op, taking on the roles of booking agent and president. John also was a volunteer at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, rising to Chair of Parking from 2001-2008. 

John’s great passion was music. He didn’t play an instrument. His role was music appreciator. For all musicians need an audience! John and his wife Fran have enjoyed hundreds of concerts in their 40 years of courtship and marriage.

John enjoyed cooking and making different cheeses. He looked forward to the summer fruit season and harvesting his black raspberries and blueberries, canning peaches and making strawberry ice cream. He often tinkered in woodwork, electrical work and an avid photographer. John and Fran enjoyed traveling, frequently to Monhegan Island, ME, where they enjoyed taking photographs, hiking and just relaxing.

John was the loving husband of Frances M. (nee Thielking) Mahoney; beloved brother of James Mahoney (Sue), Margo Korbel, and William Mahoney; caring uncle of Kristin Mahoney, Jim Mahoney, Brianna Mahoney, Quinn Mahoney, Michael Long, and Brian Long, and grand uncle to Kuemmerle Mahoney.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing 6:30-9:00 PM on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082 and to his Funeral Mass 10:30 AM on Friday, October 13, 2023 at St. Laurence Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
