John McAteer, Sr., age 91, passed away December 28, 2023. Beloved son to the late James J. and Rose (nee O’Connor) McAteer.
John is survived by his loving son John McAteer, Jr. and his beloved grandchildren: Amber, Amanda, and Ryan. He was predeceased by his brothers James E. McAteer and Daniel J. McAteer.
John served in the Army during the Korean War, and luckily survived the front line of combat in extreme cold. He served his country with honor, and was a proud member of the VA and appreciative of all they did.
John was an avid sports fan, and cross country/track runner at Philly's St. Thomas More high school. He especially loved boxing and was an expert in its history. His favorite past time was playing pool/billiards, especially at Shannondell. During his working life he was a “Jack of all trades.” He owned several motels, but mainly the “Poolside Motel" in Wildwood, NJ. Later in life, he especially loved Florida and hated the cold, living for many years in the Delray Beach and Port St. Lucie areas for almost 20 years. His past 11 years were enjoyed at the Shannondell retirement community in Audubon, PA.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing 10:00-11:00 AM on Friday, January 12, 2024 at St. Eugene’s Church, 200 S Oak Ave, Primos, PA, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, 626 Baily Rd, Yeadon, PA
