John (Jack) L. Matthews, 78, of West Chester, PA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 20, 2025.
Born November 21, 1946 in Darby, PA, he was a son of the late Edwin and Evelyn (nee Johnson) Matthews.
Jack was a graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School and went on to graduate with a degree in Chemistry from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1970. Jack spent his career working for Pharmaceutical companies including William H. Rorer, Inc. and GlaxoSmithKline.
In 1969, Jack married the love of his life, Helen Matthews, and together they raised four children. Jack enjoyed many hobbies including photography, fishing, gardening, cooking, and all things Disney. Most of the summer months you would find Jack working in his garden growing the most delicious vegetables. He loved to gather the family and cook an amazing meal for them all to share. Jack enjoyed traveling with his wife, exploring the US, going on cruises and to the Jersey shore, and of course, his annual trips to Disney. His favorite trips to Disney included sharing the most magical place on Earth with his granddaughters. Jack adored his grandchildren and loved spending time teaching them to garden as well as playing games with them. Poppop was always there to cheer on his granddaughters whether at science fairs, soccer games, piano recitals, dance recitals, or school plays. Jack and Helen were married for more than 55 years. Their love for one another is a beautiful example to their family.
Jack was the beloved husband of Helen M. (nee Smith) Matthews; loving father of Christine Blevins, Karen Slevinsky (Richard, Jr.), John Matthews, and Steven Matthews; and adoring Poppop of Emma Slevinsky, Grace Slevinsky, Hannah Slevinsky, Charlotte Slevinsky, Samantha Matthews, Taylor Matthews, John Matthews, and Wyatt Blevins.
