John J. Smith

John J. "Big John" Smith, age 81, of West Chester, PA, passed away on March 13, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1942, he was the son of the late John A. and Mary (nee McTamney) Smith. John served honorably in the US Marine Corps. He was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan for life. John liked to relax with a good scotch, a cigar, and a book. He was known for his great sense of humor and was proud of his Irish heritage. John enjoyed listening to loud music and playing poker. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, who he adored.

John was the beloved husband of Suzanne M. "Sue" Smith (nee Gill), with whom he shared 60 years of marriage; loving father of John D. Smith (Lisa) and Suzy Harper (Joe); dear brother of Mary Theresa Hale (the late Jim), Sr. Claire Smith, SHCJ, Michael P. Smith (Terry), Andrea Newdeck (Bud), Ellen Hagen (Jim), and the late Eileen McKenna; caring grandfather of Ian, JoLynn, Julia, Declan, Payton, Ricky, and Lexi; also survived by his brother-in-law, Ed McKenna (Ann), and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 9:30-11:30 AM Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:30 AM. Interment private.
