John J. McCloskey

John J. McCloskey, formerly of Bel Air, Md. and Parkville, MD passed away on June 3, 2026 at the age of 77

Born in 1949 in Southwest Philadelphia, PA, John was the son of the late Anthony and Ellen (née McKeever) McCloskey.

John grew up in Southwest Philadelphia and graduated from West Catholic High School for Boys. After a very brief stint in the Marine Corps, he enrolled at St. Joseph’s College to pursue a degree in Accounting. His career began with West Wholesale Drug Co. of Jenkintown, followed by a move to McKesson Corporation in Washington, DC. After receiving his CPA certification, John began working for the State of Maryland as a staff accountant at the Office of Administration and Technology. He culminated his career as the Chief of General Accounting for the same office.

He was an avid Philly sports fan and enjoyed travelling, whether it be to Ireland to visit family or the random adventures he would take with his good friend, the late Bob “Bulge” Mitchell. John also enjoyed taking many road trips to Ft. Lauderdale with his nephews. He was also known to frequent the many casinos between Philadelphia and Baltimore.

He is survived by his siblings, Brian (Jacqueline), Anthony (Janet) and Charles (Christine); and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday, June 27, 2026 and to his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at St. Laurence Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA. Interment private.
