John Holtzman, 82, of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 23, 2026.
Born in February 1944 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, John was the beloved son of Samuel Holtzman and Mary Gallagher Holtzman. He grew up in Upper Darby and developed a strong work ethic at an early age. As a teenager, he began working at the Mione Soap Factory and later stocked shelves at Thrift Drug.
John eventually made his home in Newtown Square, where he became a familiar and friendly face as a bagger at Genuardi’s in Edgemont. It was a job he loved. John took great pride in his work and enthusiastically participated in the store’s annual bagging competition for ten years, bringing his trademark good humor, and cheerful spirit to each event.
John was a parishioner of St. Anastasia Church in Newtown Square and an active member of the parish community. He generously volunteered his time helping to clean and care for the church.
A lifelong fan of The Beatles and Elvis Presley, John enjoyed their music from his teenage years throughout his life. He also had a special love for animals, especially his cherished dogs, Candy and Foxy. John was also well known for his appreciation of good food and never missed an opportunity to enjoy a favorite meal with family and friends.
John is survived by his beloved sister, Phyllis Casey; his nieces and nephew, Kathleen Casey, Erin Kirk, and Shawn Casey; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Marley and Liam Kirk, Luigi and Hazel Giacomucci, and Luke and Derek Casey.
John will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle nature, and the genuine joy he brought to those around him.
His memory will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
