John Matthew Henderson

It is with both sadness and cherished memories that we announce the passing of our father, brother, uncle and Pop Pop John Matthew Henderson on June 11, 2026 at the age of 77. John was born in Southwest Philadelphia to Elizabeth (Quinn) and Matthew Henderson on October 28, 1948.

After graduating from West Catholic Boys High School, John served in the United States Coast Guard and was honorably discharged in 1971.

As a child, Johnny wanted to be a cowboy, and with that, a life long love of horses and riding was born. John enjoyed many hours at the barn with his horse Sonny, working at Dressage At Devon as a ringmaster and assisting friends with carriage shows.

John’s best role in life was as a Pop Pop to his three grandchildren. He devoted countless hours and energy to performing school pick ups, attending football and soccer games, marching band competitions, hockey games galore, art shows and music concerts. If the Academy Awards gave out an Oscar for Best Supporting Pop Pop, he would have been a ringer.

After his retirement from the United States Postal Service, John put down the mailbag and picked up the pen, ultimately publishing five mystery novels in the Nick Quinn and Dana Miller series.

John is survived by his daughter, Laura Harris, son in law Daniel Harris, his three favorite people on the planet, his grandchildren Aidan, Danny and Claire, sisters Carol McCune (John), MaryBeth Konigsberg, Joanne Smart (Howard), brother Thomas Henderson (Mary), nephews Brian Lemay and Matthew Henderson, and Laura’s mother Marion Henderson. .

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life on June 25, 2026 at Donahue Funeral Home 1627 West Chester Pike West Chester, PA 19382. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. followed by a 12 p.m. service. Interment is private.

John will be missed by all who loved him. Happy Trails Dad.
