John Hayduk Sr. of Downingtown PA, born May 4, 1930, at home in Olyphant PA and passed away after a short illness on April 9, 2026.
He lived a full, active life marked by curiosity, service, and a deep love for family. John was a proud graduate of Carteret High School and earned a mechanical engineering degree from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and received his masters at Rutgers University. He answered the call of duty when he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
John found joy in tending his garden, especially his famous purple green beans. John was a long time member of the Philadelphia Curling Club in Paoli, PA and competed in many events. His love for sports began when his uncle Nick took him to the Polo Grounds to cheer for the New York Baseball Giants. He would then take his nieces and nephews to the Polo Grounds to watch the 1962 New York Mets. As an avid New York Jets fan he bought our first color TV just in time to watch Super Bowl III.
Above all, he adored his grandchildren, whose visits and laughter brought him immeasurable happiness. Each Christmas, he would take Johnny, Crystal, Eric, and Alex to Manhattan for a Broadway show and a meal, memories our family will hold dear for years to come. John was always on the move—whether taking long hikes, bike rides or walking and listening to a game on the radio, his pace and curiosity remained constant throughout his life. He was a long time member of Central Presbyterian Church in Downingtown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Hayduk; sisters Ann Truch and Mary Litus. He is survived by his sons John (Sharon) Hayduk, Robert (Regina) Hayduk, daughter Robyn (Charles) Lance, grandchildren John N. Hayduk, Crystal Hayduk, Eric Hayduk, Alexander J. Hayduk, and Amanda Hepner, and John Hepner. He also leaves behind his beloved great-granddaughter, Charley P. Hayduk, great-grandsons Dylan and Noah Hayduk. He had many loving nieces and nephews. John’s family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate his memory.
A celebration of Life will take place on May 2, 2026, at Central Presbyterian Church at 100 W. Uwchlan Ave Downingtown PA 19355. Visitation will start at 10:30 AM. The Celebration of Life will start at 11:00 AM.
