John Emrich

John W. Emrich, 79, of West Chester, PA, passed away March 3, 2021.

Born October 18, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late John S. and Anna (Cicak) Emrich.

John was the first in his family to graduate from college. He trained as a chemist and worked almost his entire career for DuPont. He rose to become an executive in the Automotive Paints and Products division and, in his job, he met and spoke with many of the famous race car drivers whom DuPont sponsored.

Outside of work, John would relax by reading. Every day he read multiple newspapers, magazines, and of course his beloved detective novels -- especially Agatha Christie. John was old school. No e-reader or tablet for him. Always paper and ink.

He also enjoyed working with his hands through carpentry and cooking. He spent many nights and weekends maintaining, strengthening, and improving the family home over the four decades he lived there. At big family gatherings in the home, John was always in the kitchen. Happily working all day to prepare food for everyone. He learned many of the recipes from his mother and passed those family recipes to the next generations, ensuring the traditions will continue.

John was the beloved husband of the late Patricia (nee Ringwalt) Emrich; loving father of J. David Emrich (Jamie), Johnna A. Rice (Jay), and Megan A. Mattia; dear brother of Edward Emrich; and adoring grandfather, known as Bop, of Jacob, Andrew, Sam, Jenna, Fiona, and Charlie.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Ss. Simon and Jude, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA 19382, followed by his Funeral Mass 11:30 AM. Interment St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Brandywine Valley SPCA because John loved animals, especially dogs.
