JoDee Winger
April 24, 1960 / October 5, 2025
of Havertown PA
JoDee Winger (nee Jacobs) passed away on October 5 after a two-year battle with lung cancer.
Named in honor of her grandparents, JoDee Jacobs was born to the late Charles Nathan Jacobs and the late Joan Stearns Jacobs Weiss in Glen Rock, New Jersey on April 24, 1960. The family quickly combined her first and middle names: JoDee.
After graduating from the former University of the Arts in 1985. JoDee began a career in illustration, with projects featuring her hand-drawing and type-setting techniques. She gravitated toward the field of graphic design in the early 1990s while working at Carriage House Design. Through this work, she combined her passion for illustration with an ability to distill companies’ essences into sharp, resonant logos.
For over 15 years, JoDee was a senior designer for the venerable Philadelphia design firm, Kelsh Wilson. For the last nine years of her life, she led her own graphic design business, along with working as the Art Director and Senior Designer for Bryn Mawr College’s Communications Department. She is remembered as an esteemed and respected colleague by those fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to work with her.
JoDee married W. Scott Winger, AIA, in Philadelphia in the fall of 1987 at the Art Alliance followed by a reception at the Barclay Hotel Ballroom next door.
JoDee is survived by her loving husband of 38 years; her sister, Julie Jacobs; her son, Zachary (Alissa); her daughter, Amelia; her granddaughter, Jessica; her aunt, Leah Jacobs; and a loving network of extended family and friends.
Beyond her design work, JoDee embraced a passion for cooking that she shared with both of her children. Upon her most recent cancer diagnosis, she reminded her husband that he had yet to enroll in the illustrious “JoDee Winger Cooking School” and proceeded to guide him through the art of navigating a kitchen.
Her passion for cooking stemmed from childhood ski trips with her late father and his fondness for a good meal after an afternoon on the slopes. In the early years of her marriage, she loved attending cooking classes and often challenged herself to recreate her favorite restaurant dishes. The recipes she mastered – and lovingly turned into family traditions – will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
After her initial diagnosis in 2023, JoDee fought lung cancer from an optimistic perspective and enjoyed nearly a year of remission before receiving her second diagnosis in January 2025.
The Winger family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00pm – 2:00pm followed by a Celebration of her life at 2pm on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered to the University of Pennsylvania Abrahamson Cancer Center & Department of Radiation Oncology, 3535 Market St., Ste 750, Phila. PA 19104.
