Jo-Anne Volpe

It is with great sadness that we announce that Jo‑Anne “Jody” Volpe, 80, of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 9, 2026, surrounded by her family who loved her very much.

She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 38 years, John Volpe; and by her children and grandchildren who loved and adored her:

• Eric (Katie) Speakman – Rosie and Sage
• Joy (Jim) Chipolla – Cearra and Damaris
• Amy Selena – Olivia and Gabriel
• Kristy (Michael) Moore – William and Aislyn

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Speakman; her husband, William Speakman; her mother, Helen Wren; and her brother, George Greenamyer.

Jo‑Anne will be remembered for her positive energy, gentle spirit, and unwavering kindness – making everyone who knew her feel welcome and loved. She spent many years as a teacher and coach, touching countless lives with her patience and her gift for seeing the best in everyone. She later worked at REI for many years, where she shared her knowledge and love of the outdoors with customers, many of whom sought her out specifically for her warmth and expertise.

Outside of work, Jo‑Anne cherished gardening with her beloved husband, as well as cooking, and baking for—and often alongside—her grandchildren. She loved the outdoors and passed that love to her children and their friends, taking them camping and hiking, and often cooking over a fire during their adventures. She never missed a chance to see the beauty and energy in the world around her, and one of her greatest joys was discovering a beautiful rock (or several) to bring home and add to her ever-growing collection.

A celebration of life will be held on April 4, 2026 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000. Family and friends are invited to the Visitation from 9:30-11:30am followed by her Memorial Service at 11:30am to honor Jo‑Anne’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Breast Cancer – Unite For Her, a cause close to Jo‑Anne’s heart.
