Jill Marie Cowen

Jan 9, 1974 — Oct 11, 2026

Harrisburg, PA Formerly of Upper Darby, PA

Jill Marie Cowen, 52, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

Born in Philadelphia on January 9, 1974, Jill grew up in Delaware County and graduated from Upper Darby High School. She later attended Penn State University on a softball scholarship before continuing her education at Arcadia University and becoming a physician assistant.

Jill’s career was more than a profession. She cared deeply for the people entrusted to her, and that care left a lasting impression on many of her patients. She brought compassion, patience, and humanity to her work, and she was equally treasured by the coworkers at UPMC who came to know her not only as a colleague, but as a friend.

Above all else, Jill loved her family.

She was the beloved daughter of Lori and Dave Cowen and the cherished sister of Michael Cowen and his wife, Nicole, and Jason Cowen and his wife, MaryAnne. She was a devoted aunt to Noah, Luke, Julianne, and Lily Cowen, and she loved each of them fiercely. Her family was an important part of who she was, and the loss of her presence in their lives is immeasurable.

And then there was Coco, her dog.

Coco was Jill’s best friend, trusted confidante, constant companion, and one of the greatest loves of her life. Their bond was unmistakable, and anyone who knew Jill knew just how deeply she loved her.

Jill also created family wherever she went. In her Harrisburg neighborhood, she was affectionately known as the “Ambassador,” a name that perfectly reflected the way she connected with people. Her neighbors became family, and her coworkers became friends. She had a way of making people feel known, included, and cared about.

She was a proud Philadelphia sports fan and loved cheering on her Philly teams. She loved to travel, golf, game, and spend hours building LEGO sets, especially Harry Potter and Star Wars. These were the things that brought her joy, but what mattered most was who she shared those moments with.

Jill will be remembered not only for the life she lived, but for the way she made people feel. Her family will miss her voice, her humor, her presence, and the everyday moments that seemed ordinary at the time and now feel priceless. Her friends will miss the loyalty and connection she brought into their lives. Her patients will remember the kindness and care she showed them when they needed it most.

There is no simple way to measure the space Jill leaves behind. She was deeply woven into the lives of so many people, and her absence will be felt in countless ways. But so will her love.

Her family will carry forward the stories, memories, laughter, traditions, and little things that made Jill uniquely Jill. She will be remembered every time someone cheers for a Philly team, spots a Harry Potter or Star Wars LEGO set, talks about a favorite trip, or thinks of the countless ways she showed up for the people she loved.

Services will be held privately for Jill’s family. A Celebration of Life will be held in Harrisburg, PA at a later date for friends, coworkers, neighbors, and all those whose lives Jill touched. Details will be shared once arrangements are finalized.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Jill’s honor to the Sudden Cardiac-Death Awareness Research Foundation (S.C.A.R.F.) at https://www.scarfnow.org/ or the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area at https://humanesocietyhbg.org/.

Jill was deeply loved, and she will be missed more than words can say.
