Jeanne M. Currie, of Newtown Square, passed away on June 21, 2026. Predeceased by her husband of 60 years, John F., Jr., she is survived by her 8 children, Mary (Barney) Gallagher, John, Dan (Laura Barvinek), Martin, David (Norita), Anne (Sean) McMahon, Andrew (Bernadette) and Jeanne (Tom) Shellenberger. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren with one on the way, and her brother-in-law, Rev. William J. Currie, S.J. who resides in Tokyo, Japan.
After graduating from Misericordia Nursing School Jeanne served as a nurse before starting a family with John and cherished the moments, joys and rewards of raising their (8) children in Drexel Hill. Family dinners always started with a prayer and “thankfuls” - reminding us daily that we have much to be thankful for.
As a loving grandmother, she always was ready to impart her care, knowledge and time to all the children in our families. After moving to Newtown Square, she always made her home a welcoming place for extended family gatherings.
Jeanne loved her discussion and prayer groups in St. Andrew’s parish with friends and neighbors in our Drexel Hill neighborhood and with her book club friends. She returned to her nursing career part time to serve college students at the campus infirmary at St. Joseph's University until she retired and moved to Newtown Square. And with an eye for art, in particular favoring impressionist artists, Jeanne volunteered her time and talents at the Daylesford Abbey Art Show for many years. She kept in touch with many of the neighborhood and nursing school friends over the years, reveling in those lifelong friendships and fond memories.
After John’s passing, Dunwoody Village became her new home and was full of family visits, lots of activity and compassionate care from the staff and over the last year, undeniably great nursing care and personal aide attention with daily routines. Jeanne enjoyed her caregivers and they appreciated her pleasant personality. She will be missed by all and is now resting in peace after a life filled with loving activity in all things, both great and small.
Relatives and friends are invited to Jeanne's Visitation on Friday, June 26th from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 3500 School Lane, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Inurnment at Calvary Cemetery, Villanova, PA.
