Jean D. Anderson
Jean D. Anderson, age 97, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at her residence at Freedom Village in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry S. Anderson. She is survived by her six children: Melanie Preisendanz, Harry ("Sut") Anderson, Sue Frampton, Gail Cox, Kathleen Felix, and Gina Schmid. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law and one bother-in-law.
Born on March 29, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, Jean was the daughter of George and Irene Dreyer. She was the younger of two children and shared a close bond with her older sister, Connie Perry. From an early age, Jean had a love for dance and theater. It was through her involvement in community theater that she met her husband, Harry. They were married in 1950 and built a life together centered on family and faith.
Jean devoted her life to her family and her faith in God. As the loving mother of six children, she created a warm and nurturing home where her care was expressed through home-cooked meals, handmade clothing for her children, costumes for school and neighborhood plays, family picnics, hikes, and countless cherished memories. She also organized neighborhood plays, served as a Girl Scout leader, and enjoyed sailing with her family on the Chesapeake Bay.
In 1977, Jean began working as an Activities Coordinator at Brandywine Nursing Home, where she brought joy and companionship to residents through crafts, music, and recreational programs.
A devout Catholic, Jean was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Claymont, Delaware, for 57 years. She dedicated countless hours to organizing summer church programs, participating in prayer groups, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, and supporting pro-life ministries. After moving in 1998 to Freedom Village in West Brandywine, Pennsylvania, she became a parishioner of Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church in Coatesville.
At Freedom Village, Jean continued to share her gifts and compassion with others. She taught Swedish weaving, helped coordinate transportation for fellow residents attending church services, and became deeply involved in a program that provided handmade stuffed "comfort cats" to children visiting the emergency room at Brandywine Hospital. Jean lovingly sewed many of the cats herself and inspired other residents to join the effort.
Jean's kindness, generosity, creativity, and unwavering faith touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion that will continue to inspire her family and friends.
A celebration of Jean's life will be held at Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church, 2835 Manor Road, West Brandywine, PA 19320, on Monday, June 8, 2026 with a mass at 11:30am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at the church chapel during the hour prior to the Funeral Mass.
Following the Mass, there will be a brief interment service at nearby All Souls Cemetery, 3215 Manor Road, Coatesville, PA 19320, where Jean will be laid to rest. All are welcome to attend. Those who do not wish to attend the interment are invited to proceed directly to the Celebration Room at Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church for refreshments and fellowship as memories of Jean are shared and her life is celebrated.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Freedom Village Brandywine Scholarship Fund, 15 Freedom Boulevard, Coatesville, PA 19320.
