Janice Claire Sylvester, 68, of Broomall, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on September 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband, daughter, and son.
Born on October 13, 1956, Janice was the youngest of three children to John and Phyllis (Gillan) Kane. She was raised in a loving household, attended St. Anastasia’s School and later graduated from Marple Newtown Sr. High School in 1974. A month later, she met Robert “Bob” Sylvester on a blind date, and they fell in love. Three years later, they were married at St. Anastasia’s Church. After a few years they welcomed their son Brian and settled in Broomall to raise their growing family. Soon after, their daughter Laura was born.
Janice dedicated 20 years of her career as an administrative assistant at Villanova University, retiring in 2021.
Both before and after retirement, Janice cherished relaxing by the ocean, enjoying meals with friends, discovering new recipes, and reading on her patio during the summertime. Her happiest moments were spent among close family and friends. Above all, she adored her children and grandchildren, offering them unwavering love, support, and encouragement throughout their lives.
Janice is predeceased by her parents Phyllis and John Kane. She is survived by her husband, Bob, and her son Brian (Emily Parker), and her daughter Laura Pelkey (Todd) and four cherished grandchildren: Julian & Elijah Sylvester and Addison & Quinn Pelkey. She is also survived by her brothers John A. Kane, Jr. (Lynne), and Gerald J. Kane (Ellen), sister-in-law Judy Harper, five nieces and four nephews and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, Janice’s family asks that you consider donating to the American Cancer Society.
Relatives and friends are invited to Janice's Visitation 9:30-10:25 AM Thursday, October 2, 2025 at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
