Janet Doherty

Janet M. Doherty (nee Updyke), age 71, of Springfield, PA, formerly of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on December 12, 2020.

Born in Drexel Hill, PA, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Updyke (nee Bauhaus).

Janet was a 1966 graduate of Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill, PA.  She had been employed as a Registered Nurse in the health care field.  She was a dedicated Oncology Nurse who cared greatly about her patients and often attended their funerals.  She was a compassionate, generous, dedicated, strong-willed, optimistic woman.

Janet had a strong Catholic faith and believed her mother continued to watch over the family from heaven.   She took very good care of her mentally handicapped brother after her parents passed away.

She loved to decorate for every season, enjoyed shopping for everyone, seeing old friends and the Philadelphia Phillies.    She enjoyed visiting the beach in Milton, DE, the Franklin Institute, Disney On Ice, parks, museums, movies and the theater.  She loved being with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her sister, Geraldine Canterino and her brother, James Updyke.  She is survived by her beloved husband, Frederick J. Doherty, her loving children Patrick Doherty and James Doherty, her daughter-in-law Karen Doherty and her grandchildren Seamus and Finn Doherty.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Friday, December 18, 2020 9:30-10:30 AM at St. Laurence Lower Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA and to her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.   Interment SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.

Masks are to be worn when visiting the family, to the Funeral Mass and Cemetery.   Social distancing is to be observed.
