James Merle Smith

James Merle Smith, age 99, of Audubon, PA, formerly of Devon, PA and Spring Hill, FLA passed away on November 1, 2022.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 1923, he was the son of the late James Merle and Mae (nee Dickie) Smith. Merle was a graduate of Myers’s High School, Wilkes Barre, PA, class of 1941.  He honorably served in the US Navy on an LCI during WWII in both the Atlantic and the Pacific. Merle was a member of Wayne Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, a Trustee, and a Deacon. He a former member of the St. David’s Golf Club, a member of the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, reading, and going to Broadway shows. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family.

Merle was the devoted husband of 77 years of the late E. Jane (nee Dare) Smith; loving father of Jane Grauer and Pamela Diamond; caring grandfather of Derek (Stephanie) Grauer, Christopher (Stephanie) Grauer, Elizabeth Grauer, Leah (Stu) Danforth, Alison (Jeff) McElroy, and Matthew (Kristin) Diamond and 13 great-grandchildren; predeceased by his siblings, Jack Smith and Rosemary Price.

Merle was a man of honor and lived his life with true integrity.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service 11 AM Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Wayne Presbyterian Church, 125 E. Lancaster Ave., Wayne, PA 19087. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Childrens Hospital, 3551 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140.
