James “Jim” McHugh, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, proud Donegal man, and dedicated public servant, passed away, leaving behind a life marked by love, faith, and service.
Born in Donegal, Ireland, in February 1933, Jim was the firstborn child of James and Margaret McHugh. He came to the United States in 1955, carrying with him the strength and spirit of his Irish roots. He served for two years in the United States Navy and worked more than 35 years at Oscar Mayer and 10 years at Acme, where he was known for his hard work and dedication.
Jim was devoted to his family and recently celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Kathleen. He is survived by Kathleen; his children, Maureen Chambers (John), Jim McHugh (Renata), and Colleen Street (Chuck); his grandchildren, Caitlin Chambers, Sean Chambers, McKenzie (Street) Hieb (Austin), Skylar Street, Reagan McHugh, and Brendan McHugh; his great-grandchild, Colette James Hieb; and his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Murray. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret McHugh, and his siblings, Ann Crowding, Sarah “Sadie” Grant, Patrick McHugh, and Bridget Dinan.
A longtime resident of Folcroft, Jim believed in giving back to his community. He served as a planning commissioner and borough council member, including eight years as council president, and was respected for his integrity, humility, and quiet strength.
Visitation will be held at the Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA, on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA, followed by interment at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield.
