James Paul Maloney, affectionately known as "Jimmy," passed away on June 12, 2026, in his beloved hometown of Philadelphia. Born on November 21, 1963, and raised in the northeast Philadelphia community, Jimmy's life was marked by a deep connection to his city and its people.
A proud graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School, Jimmy dedicated 38 years of his life serving the Philadelphia Phillies, creating memorable experiences for countless fans. He began his long tenure as an usher at Veterans Stadium and continued his dedicated service at Citizens Bank Park, where his friendly presence and commitment earned him a cherished place among the Phillies community. His love for the game was evident not only in his work but also in his passion as a lifelong Phillies fan. "Everyone knew Jimmy!"
Beyond the ballpark, Jimmy found joy in the rhythms of classic concerts, especially those of the Beach Boys, Beatles, Kinks, and Squeeze. His enthusiasm extended to movies and attending Phillies games, pursuits that reflected his zest for life and appreciation of enduring entertainment.
Jimmy was especially fond of his family. He delighted in spoiling his nieces and nephews, treasuring the special bonds he shared with them. He is survived by his brothers, Michael Maloney and his wife Kathy, and Brian Maloney and his wife Gina. His nieces and nephews, Mickey (Amanda), Tommy (Brittany), Ian (Joyce), Patrick (Christie), Alex (Jen), Brian Jr. (Lauren), and Danielle (Steve) also carry forward his legacy of warmth and kindness. He was a beloved great uncle to James, John, Torrey, Ollie, Theo, and Clara, who brought him immense joy.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, James J. Maloney and Frances Maloney (née Torrey), who laid the foundation for the values and community spirit that defined Jimmy's life.
Family, friends, and all who knew him will gather to honor Jimmy’s memory. A viewing will be held on June 20, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Donohue Funeral Home in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. This will be followed by a funeral service at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Philadelphia, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with the service concluding at approximately 12:00 p.m.
James Paul Maloney's legacy is one of dedication, enthusiasm for life, and profound love for his family and community. His memory will be lovingly cherished by many, and his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
